Frequently Asked Questions

Are you new to H M Forces, or maybe didn't realise you are entitled to a Military Discount on a new car? Read below to see how it all works then read the questions we are commonly asked on the right.

Changing Market:

20 years ago, Peugeot alone extended their NATO discount to apply to tax-paid sales as well as tax-free sales, but things have changed. There are now several manufacturers offering discounts to members of H M Forces and MoD employees, for home-market use. Best amongst these are Ford and Renault, because they offer substantial discounts, frequently in excess of 20%, on both cars AND options.

Delivery Charges:

What is more, Ford does not impose a UK delivery charge, whereas other companies charge £500 or more, just to deliver a car from the factory to the dealership. We are very much against these charges, but manufacturers will continue to apply them so long as customers are prepared to pay them.

Warranty:

All cars offered by Advanced Car Exports are UK-supplied through Main Dealerships. They all come with the standard 3-years warranty. Tax-paid cars also have 12 months road tax included, and tax-free cars are registered on pink log books to show that they were UK-supplied. (On rare occasions, such as direct shipment of, say, a Volvo from the factory in Sweden to a customer stationed in the USA, registration will be on a blue log book). Rest assured, however, that whether you are buying tax-free car for personal export or a tax-paid car for home market use, yours will be the first name in the V5 registration document, when it arrives from Swansea.

Payment:

All payments are made directly to the Main Dealers supplying your new car. A deposit of between £250 and £500 will normally suffice, with the balance payable on delivery. We are happy to arrange finance and part-exchange, if required. Companies providing insurance for H M Forces based overseas are listed on our "Useful Websites" page. Please select a make and model and we will be happy to offer you a price which we think you will find unbeatable.

What Are Tax Free Cars?

If you are posted overseas, you may be entitled to buy a new car and

avoid paying VAT, currently 17.5%. If your posting is to an EU country,

you can use your new car for up to two months in the UK prior to exporting it. If your posting is to a non-EU country, this period is extended to six months. Please check first, though, and we will advise you if you qualify.

We need to know where you are posted to, and for how long.

What Are Tax Paid Cars?

These are standard UK-spec cars supplied through UK Main Dealers. They carry the full 3-years warranty, and yours will be the first name in the V5 registation document. All cars come with 12 months road tax, number plates, fuel, etc. The only difference is the price. Your local dealer has a margin of approx 10% from which to offer you a discount.

As specialists in military sales, we are able to offer you as much as 25% or more off the basic price.

Are they imports?

No. Our cars are sourced from the same stocks as your local dealer would have access to. Cars built to order arrive via the same channels as your local dealer's cars. The only difference is the price you pay.

Can I get the car serviced at my local dealer ?

Yes. You can take it anywhere for servicing and warranty work, exactly as you would with a locally-bought car at full retail price. Cars under warranty should be serviced by Franchised Dealers to validate the warranty, although they can be serviced by non-franchised dealers, so long as genuine parts are used. (See manufacturers' websites for details).

How does your part-exchange work ?

We send you a used car form and our valuation is based on that. So long as your description is accurate, you will receive the price offered. If you are able to find a better offer for your part-exchange, you are free to take it and simply settle the difference with the supplying dealer on delivery.
